our tribe asleep in tents
as he approaches
we wake
to the beauty of his steps
and horror
of his exquisite
marksmanship
one by one
he picks us off
bow
as strong and long
as his fierce body
arrows
made in form and aim
by angels
impressive,
this ability to end us
now,
only several left
i hide
under the grain basket
he is no fool and,
angels on his side,
kicks me
if i do not breathe
will i be invisible?
you guess
so i stand.
what other use is there
before death
might as well
learn what i can
is the killing part necessary
i ask
you people take it all
so seriously
its part of the game
thrill of the hunt
later
in our tent
i ask why i am alive
he says
you gave up your fear
