Try a Little Persecution

Try a Little Persecution
(sing this like a crazy music-hall march)
If you want to move some people to a brand-new land
Try a little persecution.
If you want to move some people from the lives they've planned
Try a little persecution.
If you want to turn some peasants into pioneers
To labor in a wilderness of trouble, toil and tears,
Then kill a few and burn a few and work upon their fears
As you try a little persecution.
If you want to build a nation in some virgin soil
Try a little (some religious) persecution.
If you want to waste a million lives in thankless toil
Try a little persecution.
If you want to move some people off their lazy butts
To live out in the Arctic wastes in pre-fab huts,
Then murder some and torture some and give a few the gears
As you try a little persecution.
If you want to build and empire that will last a thousand years
Try a little persecution.
Or colonize a galaxy while you bring up the rear
Try a little persecution.
If you want to move some people off their sofas and their chairs
To live out on some planet where there isn't even air --
America or Israel, the Arctic or the Moon --
Try a little persecution.
