Universe -- a Guided Meditation
Find yourself a really comfortable place to sit – if you have an overstuffed chair or sofa so much better. Use cushions if necessary to settle your body so that it is as well supported as possible and will allow you to relax completely. Eliminate all possible sources of distracting noise, and use whatever techniques you find most effective to help you into a completely relaxed meditative state.
You are in deep, deep starless space. You are completely comfortable and relaxed. Your body is relaxed, so relaxed that you are barely aware of it. The space around you has a warm, relaxed quality that makes you completely at home. You are aware of a gentle amount of radiation that takes the place of light, and you are enjoying the sensation of weightlessness and gentle warmth that you feel. For a while you float there and then you slowly become aware of an ovoid form in the middle distance. You purposely drift towards it to see it better.
As you approach it you realize that it is utterly huge in size. Its color is a kind of greenish gold, and its surface looks soft and textured. It is loosely confined by a yellow rectangular frame that doesn't quite touch its surface though some of the ovoid shape extends a little bit beyond the sides and ends of the rectangular frame.
You realize that the frame is there to tell you that this is taking place in three-dimensional space, and then, almost imperceptibly the frame fades out of sight, leaving the ovoid floating in space before you.
You move closer to the ovoid form to examine it better, feeling the gentle and welcoming radiation coming from it that warms you and comforts you. As you approach it you realize that it has no surface as such, but that it's composed of countless billions of tiny particles which are all moving in inter-orbiting relationships with each other, yet gently restrained from drifting off into space by the granvitic attraction of two central points, one near each end of the ovoid shape. You move in even closer.
Now you realize that you're looking at an extremely large aggregate of solar systems of all kinds of shapes and sizes. Countless stars and suns wheel in stately majesty before you, dancing interlocking minuets in a relaxed and joyful humor, to mathematical rules and rhythms whose subtleties are' way beyond your comprehension. The music is intangible. You are smiling, ecstatic with joy at the spectacle you are watching. Bravo! Bravo! Such inconceivable beauty that you couldn't imagine ever experiencing.
Entranced, you watch for a while, and then realizing you are gently drifting away from the dance and are beginning to see this universe once again as a whole. And as you look around, you turn your head to the left and see way out there, tiny in the inconceivable distance, another of the golden ovoid's. And looking down, countless light-years below you, the faint outline of another. And curious to know whether there might be another one behind the universe you've been privileged to witness, you search the space beyond it. Yes, there is something out there, but you can't quite make out what it is.
You drift back, back, back, closing your eyes, and once again you feel your body resting comfortably in its cushioned chair, and after a few moments gently open your eyes.
Author's Notes: One never knows whether a meditative vision represents what it seems to or not. Perhaps this is a Shamanic view of our Universe or of something else --- perhaps a vision of the metaphysical workings of the brain, or pure fantasy. Try it, but try it at your own risk -- I have never had any difficulty with guided meditations, but use your brain -- if you have any medical condition (such as sleep apnoea) that suggest that meditation might cause problems, Don't do it!
