Poem - The Brook

Sometimes I sit beside my brook
And listen to its song
And think about my youth filled days
As it winds its way along
Down that hill where I played
And frolicked in the grass
Where I lent courage to my mates
And sung and danced and laughed
It passes through a wooded glade
Where I first met Her
And came of age there in my youth
Under moon and twinkling stars
I sit here in a musing way
With my old dog who’s my friend
And wander in the magick
Of the memories held within
The soft warm glow of campfires
Roasted marshmallows on moonlight nights
The stories told, the laughter
And close fellowship of friends
I wonder where they are now
I wonder what they think
I wonder if they remember
That brook behind the hedge
Do they ever wander down the path
Made of memories from the past
Have they ever sat beside their brook
And let memories take them back
To that wondrous childhood
Of the dreams and tears we shed
Of all those little wondrous things
That made us who we are
I think and pause a minute
Why, of course they do!
For when I think of them
I feel their love shine through
I will share these memories
When we meet again
Somewhere just past the rainbows
Down the road and round the bend
