Poem - Leaving

Her undying love pulled me close
And I gazed down upon her
The porcelain beauty of her face
Was framed by her long brown hair
As it lay upon the white pillow of the bed
Ragged breath and deep sighs
Crept within her restless sleep
Soft murmurings lay upon her lips
Half forgotten thoughts lost forever
No more pain, no more answers, just grief
I touch her hand
The hand that held mine
For what seemed like forever
But it was so short a time
That hand is old and careworn but soft
I will wait for one moment more
Just one minute more
Then I will turn and move to the light
Walk amongst the beauty of the ages
And leave but leaving her is so hard
