Poem - The Oldest Lesson

The Oldest Lesson©
I was sitting at a café
On some busy downtown street
Just humming to myself
Tapping both my feet
I gazed around about me
As people want to do
And I learned the oldest lesson
Taught to me a new
If life is love and love is life
Then music must abound
Within the soul and in the heart
With no boundaries that surround
For each of us is born
With Her twinkle in our eye
With His laughter on our lips
Under Their blue sky
The songs we sing are rainbows
Made up of family, friends
An orchestra of instruments
Wondrous symphony with no end
These notes we play together
Each one has its cherished part
A wondrous sheet of music
That brings gladness to our hearts
So when you’re sad and lonely
And feel life’s pains anew
Just sit down by the fire
And play the music that is you
