Poem - Within

Within
When we gaze within both heart and soul
And gently touch the memories resting there
We see what is and might have been
Choices of the mind, not of the heart
Sometimes wrapped within the love we feel
We touch the enduring pain of circumstance
Of choices made to fill the years
That burdens both our hearts and minds
We turn and flee from known truth
Add the twist of luck or fate
Never looking for the why
Wrapped within all the choices there
We venture forth the self made one
Never feeling sunset’s warmth
By passing beauty in the stars
And fireside’s warmth with one we love
Please look within a candle’s flame
Feel the peace that’s offered there
Or gaze within a loved one’s eyes
See there the rainbows of delight
Chase a leaf upon the wind
Listen to the gentle roll of surf
Bird’s song upon the breeze
Or watch the graceful swaying of a tree
Seek the laughter of a child’s joy
Hold their hand in loving trust
Hug your Mom and hold her close
Sit, speak and listen to your Dad
Remember friend there is a choice
The loving hand is not just winsome fate
It is but the life you live
And just a choice to make or not
