Poem - Partings

Partings
“Partings are such sweet sorrow”
Or so a “Bard” has said
Whether in bright Moonlight
Or clothed in Sun’s warm, sweet rays
A gentle touch, a warm embrace
A loving kiss or two
A hug, a word or gesture
A smile, then adieu
Partings should bring us closer
Never tear our lives apart
They should fill our souls with wonder
Bring peace within our hearts
Why is it so painful?
When no words are ever said
Why is it like cold, dark rain?
And souls are filled with dread
With no explanation ever given
Creating doubt deep in our minds
When friendship’s Circles break asunder
Like thunder in the clouds
When our love within us withers
And fear is what remains
And silent tears fall gently
As we each, quietly, turn away
