Poem - The Sword

The Sword
There stood the man on bloodied hill
Sword clasped in trembling hand
His eyes were glazed and shadowed
As he stared out o’er the land
The bodies, they seemed endless
The wounded cried in pain
The vultures, they were gathering
Over this war be gotten plain
His eyes came back in focus
His pain came to the fore
His shoulders shook with passion
And he dropped his gore stained sword
He shook his head in wonder
As he turned and walked away
Why they had died and he had lived
Would haunt him all his days
For war is ever wasteful
Of men and their ideals
For love is lost forever
On the end of cold, hard steel
So Journey not down war’s sad trail
But search for love and light
The Lord will guide you through the day
The Lady through the night
Be at peace and wield not the sword
But offer peace to all mankind
The world is for all to share
Her bounty our reward
