Poem - There Was Always Time

There Was Always Time
When I was young there was always time
To walk hand in hand down shady lanes
Listening to the song birds’ call
Within the green clad maple trees
When I was young there was always time
To pause and sit with you amongst the stars
Listening to the night birds’ call
Among the moonlight shadows there
When I was young there was always time
To pause and hold my family close
Tell them of my undying love
As we paused beside the still, blue lake
When I was young my life was long
Wrapped within youth’s endless joy
When I was young my love was yours
Each kiss a promise of what was to be
Time has passed and now here I sit
Among these remnants of my life
Wondering whether love has passed me by
As my tears fall softly in the night
