Poem - I Watched

I Watched
I watched the wavering shadows dance
Across hope’s barren fields
Felt my love die a thousand deaths
As you turned away .... and Left
Felt teardrops on my cheeks
Like a warm and gentle midnight rain
Watched the blue skies turn to grey
And the roses slowly wither .... and Die
Felt summer’s breeze turn to fall
Its cold, bitter bite deep within my soul
Knew no new beginnings for our love
Just a sense of a remorseless fear .... and Dread
Now they bring you home to me
Upon your battered warrior’s shield
A sacrifice to man’s relentless quest
To give this world both peace .... and Hope
I will spend the relentless years
Missing your smile and warm embrace
Watching our child grow
Without her father’s gentle touch .... or Love
Rest well within the Lady’s arms my sweet
Till we meet once again
Amidst the power’s gentle spiral
Wrapped within Her perfect love .... and Trust
