Poem - Journey

Journey
I met an old man upon my way
On a winding, dusty road
Paused a while upon the verge
And we shared a laugh or two
Then I asked him quite succinctly
Where he had just come from
He said: I been where ye are goin’
And it’s a journey that’s been long
It’s a journey of many footsteps
Of dreams, of hopes, of prayers
Made of all of yer desires
That is carried with yer years
It’s the songs ye have heard and sang
It’s the friends upon the way
It’s the lovers met and parted
Its yer children while at play
It’s the stars and moon at midnight
It’s sunsets and its rain
It’s the sunrise in the morn
It’s a doe and fawn at play
It’s the miracle of life
So as ye pass it by
Pause awhile and have a taste
And never question why
For each memory a golden coin
To savour on yer quest
It makes of ye the richest man
Until ye are called to rest
He stood, turned and walked away
This wisest of all men
May the Goddess love and keep him
And may we meet again
