Going Home

Age Group: Adult
I am a lost child.
Born too late in this life.
Still too young in another.
Stumbling along trying to find my way.
Don’t know what it is I am looking for,
Although others think I do.
They are most likely right.
I have dreamt the dream of the feathers.
Of the wise man who beckons me to him.
An elder who is older than his years.
I have not seen the lady in the white dress.
I know she is not White Buffalo Woman.
But I don’t know yet who she is.
She will come to me also in time.
She is out there amongst the beating drums.
I revel in the feel of the dirt beneath my bare feet.
My heritage beckons me.
There have been signposts along the way.
Am I so busy looking for them, that
I have missed what has been right in front of me?
The crows are still with me.
Even when they are not,
They are never far away.
Some say they are harbingers of sadness.
I should not trust their trickster ways.
Yet there is a comfort in their presence.
The eagle has come to me in my earth life.
Driving out of town one day.
The crows in the trees lining the highway.
My honor guard.
Sitting and watching as we go by.
The young eagle comes from the woods
He soars along side us.
Within arms reach.
An honored companion.
Time less than a minute stretching into eternity.
The crows take their cue from the eagle.
They take their leave.
As if their duty is done.
They have seen me safely on my way.
I am going home.
