Softly Sings A Sunday Morn

by Dragonchilde

Age Group: Adult

Singing softly, the rain that falls.
Gentle whispers kissing the earth.
Murmurs amongst the tree tops.
Signs of Spirit everywhere.
The happy, busy gurgle of water
Running through the downspout to the earth.
Finishing its journey, fulfilling its duty,
In the reverent hush of an early Sunday morning.
The world is filled with the sounds of Spirit.
Hummingbirds chirping amongst themselves.
Flitting from feeder to bush and back.
Pheasant, sounding like a squeaky clothesline pulley.
A lone dove coos for company as it wanders
Through the spoils of the garden.
Squirrels and jays, squabbling like angry washerwomen.
“It’s mine!.....no it’s mine!” and so forth,
Unwilling to admit, there’s lots for all to share.
Black birds and robins ignoring the commotion.
An osprey in a tree top.
Quiet dignity and watchful eyes.
An owl queries somewhere nearby.
Does anybody answer?
My cats, Salem and Junior.
Sentinels at the window.
Muttering to themselves with twitching tails.
Wanting to be free.
Soon the rest of the house will awaken
And another busy day will begin.
For now, I wrap myself in a blanket of
Blissful peace and contentment.
I drink my coffee and watch the rain nourish the earth.
I enjoy the moment for what it is and for what it is not.
Spirit shares this quiet, noisy morning.
It is not lost on me.
As I watch, more doves gather under the feeders.
I give thanks for blessings given,
On this softly singing Sunday morn.
