The Willow

by Sidhe
 Age Group: Adult

I asked the willow why she wept and this is the story she had kept: Along time ago in a far way land, people lived with nature hand in hand.
A beautiful creature with long flowing hair ruled these peoples gentle and fair. The strand of each hair was a powerful wand and the magic here was very strong.
Now a raging storm came off the sea and pounded the land ferociously. The people were getting quite a scare, so they ran to the creature to prepare.
The creature turned into a glowing light and filled the people, melting their fright. A strand of hair was given to these, which changed them into willow trees.
Along with the storm a ship was blown in And the men who landed were dark and grim. They saw all around them glorious trees And decided to cut them and gather the seeds.
From port to port they sold their bounty And the seeds were scattered all over the country. Over the years the trees have grown strong But they weep for the people, the creature now gone.
So if you have a willow tree, Love and care for it tenderly. The magic is there for you to share, Just open your heart and it will be there.
