Opposites of Faith

by AsianPagan

Age Group: Adult

He's a devout Christian.
I'm a Buddhist, Taoist
and sometimes Pagan.
He has been to a monastery,
taken vows of poverty and celibacy
and has heard The Calling to priesthood
since fifteen.
I don't set foot in a church
except for weddings, funerals
and maybe to use the gymnasium.
He's white, with blond hair and blue eyes.
I come across to most people
as completely Asian,
The Other in this White man's land
Who is this man, my opposite?
Just my best friend,
Isaac.

Author's Notes: Isaac has been a very good friend to me. We disagree on ritual and theological aspects, but we do so very gently while enthusiastically agreeing on the foundations of love, surrender to the Spirit, generous service, etc. The fact that we have different names and rituals for our gods is irrelevant. because we see the goodness in one another.

As he put it, "That gym bag of yours may hold greater meaning for you, different things, but it's still a gym bag, and you can still carry stuff around in it, and it works for you."

I have read much here about the intolerance of Christians -I know it is a far bigger thing in the States but true practicioners of any faith abide in the love that it demands. The rest are merely pretenders, poseurs, and when they call themselves "the faithful"- liars.

Would that all Christians be true Christians like my friends Isaac, Joe and Elise and abide in deep Love for all Creation, and all the Spirit's Children, regardles of faith., gender, sexuality, race and all the rest.

Be Well,

Andrew
