Watchman of the Night

I watched my neighbor's house
diligently for fire
while my own burned around me.
Author's Notes: I got caught in this trap for years, became haughty and my life rotted out from underneath me because I was doing nothing to change myself. In a way I was doing the exact same sin as the "Damned intolerant Christians" I so liked to set myself apart from.
A passage in the Buddhist Dhammapada about pursuing another's spiritual path leading to "great spiritual danger" inspired it.
