Diamond Cuts

What really makes a diamond
more than a girl’s best friend?
This, today I’m reminded,
by a question you send:
That a diamond’s truest value
should not be measured in dollars
any more than scattered moonlight
could ever be captured and collared.
What first gives a diamond some worth
is really a matter of “feel”
It must be born by the forces of Earth
First, it must simply be Real.
What makes a diamond-in-rough
a valuable base to the wise
is not just its true hardness
it's really also a matter of size.
But base quality means little on its own
if the rough diamond isn’t also cut right.
Only a masterful hand makes a stone
really shine like the stars in the night.
A diamond’s true worth is about Purity
as much as a number of karots,
Lesser stones can reflect higher quality,
(they may shine bright against darker sets)
But don’t let this illusion cloud clarity
A truly brilliant stone lets in the moonlight
Reflects Her dimensions through its many facets
Lets her shine like stars born in the night.
