Her Burning Bush (After the Fire)

I never really asked for this
I never sought Her wisdom out
So many years of wedded bliss
I never felt I’d done without.
It started with one witch’s kiss
Therein she sowed the seeds of doubt
Deceitful seed yet so incredulous
rooted in this one sad witch’s pout.
Seeds grew saplings of togetherness
so fertile was this lover’s clout
from seedlings grew such happiness
She detoured my life the magick route.
We grew forest trees so fabulous
Wherein I learned what Life’s about
Shady woods could shelter only Goodness
or so I thought, then being such a lout.
But She burnt down our wilderness
‘answered silent to my echoed shout
Left me charred and standing lonely
- in her blackness -
With no more green Hope around to tout.
But Sun on black soil then grew such lushness
It nourished all the beasts who’d done without
- among them, the sated hungry, I found myself -
She thus revealed She really was the Goddess
To whom I am now compelled to be devout.
