All I Wanted Was My Daddy

It's Christmas Eve and I can open a present.
It's been this way for years, but
this year I look forward to this moment,
more than I have for a long time.
I open the box, take out the paper,
I catch my breath. She's beautiful, but somethings still not right
there's something missing.
I run my fingers over the porceline,
so smooth, beautiful, flawless. So perfect.
I know all of these things aren't me,
is that what I feel is missing? The lack of reality?
No.
I search through the box again,
looking for something more.
What am I looking for?! I scream in my head,
a different voice speaks, "I know what your looking for"
my eyes are watering "what!?" my mind is reeling.
"What you're looking for is not there. You will not find it"
something whispers to me. I understand now.
The doll, I turn her upside down, her name is mine.
The same spelling, everything. I smile...
something is still wrong inside of me.
I'm still partly hollow, empty and cold.
It's beautiful, my fingers still running over the figure,
but it's secretly not enough.
I'll love her until the day I die,
but what I really wanted, isn't there.
She is not you Daddy,
don't you see it? I'll keep her with me always,
never will she break,
she will be the most importent thing I own.
But she is not you.
All I wanted was you.
Author's Notes: This is for my father, who will never probably never read it but that's alright. It's just venting feelings that I have right now. I love the gift though, it's so beautiful, but I really miss him.
