Your Words They Are My Death

You hurt, get angry,
take it out on me.
Always me.
Angry words spill from
your lips,
I'm drowning in them.
The red water fills my
lungs, I can't move.
I'm glued in place,
still more water,
more anger, more insults.
My arms flail about me,
trying to save myself,
trying so hard. You.
You grab my wrists,
hold me under, still more
words, echoing, echoing so
loud around me.
Suddenly I can breathe,
the water is gone,
and you are holding me.
Telling me your sorry. I
have not died.
Why? Why have you
not let me go? I will not ask because I
already know. You don't
want me gone,
without me you
are alone,
and I am at rest. Without me
there is no one, no one to
take your wrath. Take it without
fighting you.
So I am destined to
live through the words
that will be the death
of me.
