see you seer see you seer
You sing the songs of so many birds But you sing not of the mourning dove Your sweet songs have no dark sad words You sing only of the brightest kind of Love
Author's Notes: I called this Northern Mockingbird but it is really about the songs I heard sung by a Brown Thrasher outside my window this early misty morning. Male brown thrashers mimic the songs of many other bird species (because female thrashers dig large repertoires: ) . I listen to the Thrashers closely to try to pick out the bird species' songs they sing. Today I noticed I have never heard one mimic a mourning dove...
The thrasher in this poem sings the songs of (in order) :
see me, hear me, here I am see you (Solitary Vireo) witchedy witchedy witchedy (Yellowthroat Warbler) zray zray zray zree (Cerulean Warbler)
cheerily cheerily (Robin) tsee tsee tsee (Golden Crowned Kinglet) kelly kelly kelly (Eastern Kingbird - Tyrannus tyrannus) screee (Red tailed Hawk) drink your teeeee (Rufus-sided Towhee)
chick-a-day dee dee (Chickadee) tweedle eet (Tree Sparrow) fee-bee fee-bay (Pheobe) sweet sweet sweet sue so sweet (Yellow warbler)
we see we See We see we saw (Black & White Warbler) teacher teacher teacher (Ovenbird) caw caw (Crow) bobolink (Bobolink) oolink (Blue Jay) we do lay we do lay (Wood Thrush)
see you seer (Meadowlark)
Amazing birds.
