On the hottest days of summer
when some companionship I wish
To crystal pools of limestone Dummer
I go to swim again among the Sunfish
For here all is rendered elemental
in this, our earth-air-water-fire niche
Here old love is layered sedimental
Where we swim among the Sunfish
Find friendship here with natural ease
Share here good cheer, an elegant dish
Naked hearts exposed to soothing breeze
Warm bodies swim cool with the Sunfish
In this balmy mid-summer moonlight
Your night embrace finds me so selfish
Though dark below You shine so bright
Swimming with me among the Sunfish
Ours is still the greatest story untold
Layered we are among these fossil shellfish
We are now six hundred million years old
Still swimming together with the Sunfish
