And in
A little town near Cayuga
A place called Indiana
Lies Canada's
Dirty little secret.
Black slavery was abolished
Traders in humans were demolished
Canada was a country of opportunity
But not for those living in poverty.
The Irish were brought by boat
Carrying only their hat and a coat
The wealthy British were in charge
The Scottish were living life large.
Slaves from Africa were thought wrong
Slaves from Ireland, imported in throngs
There were houses to build and tend
Meals to cook and clothing to mend.
And in
A little town near Cayuga
A place called Indiana
Lies Canada's
Dirty little secret.
The Irish women and men
Had brought forth wee slave children
Laughter and joy didn't fill their home
Through the fields, they will always roam.
Medicine and cures were denied
Death, poverty and hunger thrived
And in one last attempt to hide the truth
The graves were dug behind the "Ruth".
And in
A little town near Cayuga
A place called Indiana
Lies Canada's
Dirty little secret.
Weeds grow over the graves
The poor, wee Irish slaves
Their spirits cry for justice and truth
But no one cares, they only see "Ruth".
