There is thunder rolling in the distance
While new fledglings test their wing
Egged on at Mother Earth's insistance
Before the tempest that She'll bring
The forceful updraft winds are gaining
Shredding perfect white black locust blooms
The bluebirds hide out before the raining
While closer lightning strikes and booms
Fresh green leaves are turning over
Now that birds' songs have all but ceased
No deer nor horses graze on clover
Since storm cloud shadows have increased
Here it comes down the wall of rainfall
Like a cool curtain chills a summer play
Bringing fresh relief to green blades tall
A brief perfect storm to quench the heat of day
There is thunder rolling in the distance
While evening birds resume their spring refrains
Ethereal ground mists rise up now in resistance
To form new clouds to fall hard in future rains
