She Black Specter

She turns Her back now to the setting Sun
Perched high out on a lifeless limb
The Black winged Specter
looking down again upon us all
From within the skeletal remains
of the tree of summer Life
We cut off from Her powers
its vitality nipped in the bud
premature death and tragedy seems attractive
compared to the slow sad demise by disease
This Tree yet another victim of globalization
or another exotic pest at least
our maybe our insatiable hunger
for cheap useless goods that bind us
to our subconscious need
to make the rest of the world
at least as unhappy as we...
We.
Men the newest element to be reckoned with
We, the Great cleansing homogenizers
as tasteless as our white milk
Picking cultures clean as Sun bleached bone
ridding them of all manner of pestilence and evil
for the sake of the children of course
This Tree stripped of its green leaves
not by the consequences of an over-heated economy
oil fed and out of balance
but by Nature for She proved to be too weak
and She could not keep up the pace
its just survival of the fittest after all...
We.
We, yes a part of Nature it is true
Not mere observers but participants
in all of Life's beauty, miraculous and visceral
We, vectors yes of biogeography
reducing Her complex ecosystems
into simple cartoon caricature of ourselves
- for the sake of the children of course -
No, we recycle and
oppose thoughtless destruction of Nature
at least within sight of our own backyards...
Then after the Sun has finally descended
The Vulture spreads her dark foreboding wings
Casting us in long shadows black
That we may merge again with night
white bones stripped clean in silhouette
against a background of pure gold.
Author's Notes: Oh, now I must point out with both apology and a hint of pleasant astonishment that Arachne Priestess posted a poem earlier this week by a similar title. Our titles mere "coincidence". Now her's is much more beautiful than mine of course, and a different theme really, yet I think we must have been on the same wavelength, both receiving the same muse at the time... for I guess we were both thinking of the meaning of black winged bird against the setting sun. I love it when that happens! Thanks once again Misuchi shivers recieved.
