I am Witch

by Doyenne Solace Arcanna ShadoeWalker
 Age Group: Adult

I am a witch
There a small sentence four words but they have molded the way I live my life
But now to the question I grew up with many who would never call themselves witch.
Though we had those in our line that read tea leaves or laid hands or would announce a kins passing hours before we received the call.
I had one gran that taught me "kitchen sense" with herbs and plasters and she was a good Catholic in every way.
Another nan that read tea cups at family dinners and knew who was calling on the phone or who would get an unexpected visitor within a fortnight
She taught me the secrets of the pretty cups my mother worked so hard to buy.She taught me also the stories of the Tarot much the way you would now teach a youngling the myths and stories of Rome or Greece ("No harm in the child .Francy")
I had an uncle or so he was called in the family who lived in his bed in the back room who would send all of us children scurrying for treasures, stones and balls and pennies all kinds of the detritus of living in a big city.
And as we all scampered back with all our treasures cupped in his shaking hands told a stories told of a redheaded boy with no front teeth who threw the yellow ball or a Mother who dropped a coin filling her envelope for the big silver dish For God on Sunday. All theses things have shaped who I am and what I believe also helped me choose the path I now walk. None of these were lessons from the Big Blue Book nor was taught by a 7 time witch but still they showed my a world beyond my fingers and eyes, our world of Magic. Is this all to be disregarded now that I know of Gardner et al?
I also was taught by a man who would laugh at the title Shaman though he was native and taught me to walk between the shadows He gave me my name which I still wear with pride.
He showed me the way to my totem guide Who brought me through the death of my mother all while battling his own terminal fight, about which he said nothing and when he was no longer able to teach he sent me to one who had begun a Circle who agreed to guide this green novice.. and so coven training began...are these lessons to be disregarded too?
I am weary of the life of a Solitary practice and yearn for the life of community and family, but how much of what I am now is acceptable? What will be derided and mocked?
Perhaps I am a coward posting all this here . In this I would wish to avoid the ire and sarcasm of my fellows .. but as every one knows we all post what our hearts see
At any rate this is a rant for me
