O
I'm waiting like a driven male salmon
Hunkered down semi-dormant here below
Waiting patiently for this dark stream to warm
Some time soon you've just got to let it flow...
I'm waiting here a pensive blade of grass
Lying dull and half dead under deep snow
Waiting patiently to rise again for you at last
Soon you must release me, just let me grow...
I am waiting like the anxious woodcock
For warm southern winds to finally blow
To take us northward from this dismal flock
Under sweet Ostara's waning night-time glow
I am waiting like the starving buck deer
Pinned down in cedar with his pregnant doe
Waiting out wolves and for cold fields to clear
Soon your deep killing snow must simply go...
Down here I wait so patiently upon my knees
While our spring warmth returns so very slow
Bring on soon pussy willows and trees greening
May I sometime soon meet you where we know...
I am waiting here like frozen winter seed
Long cast out yet hidden from the wanton crow
Waiting patiently to be by Sunlight freed
Some time soon amidst dark rows we'll hoe
