The Lost First Lovers' Lair

In a cavern hidden underground
Somewhere in southwestern France
Is a Paleolithic temple yet unfound
In which the first lovers' spirits dance
There deep within our Mother Earth
One can yet feel his hunter-shaman's pride
In hopeful round curves of Her before birth
And in wood horse carvings they still ride
These lost cave walls are steeped in soul
And seasons turn herein still in red orchre
Here deer spirits leap outlined in charcoal
In the dark you sense him gently stroke Her
On this cold cavern floor there is a circle
To its west the skull of a cave bear beast
Above, the Lovers centred safe in miracle
As if day still broke on the staff to the east
Hidden deep within our stone Mother's womb
In their lost cave by shadows still adorned
The first lovers' spirits Light death's dark tomb
Where a goddess dances with Her god yet horned
