After the Rain…

No tree’s fragrance could be sweeter
Than this balsam scent within dark manes
No light breeze was ever so intoxicating
Than this spring's evening air after the rains
No landscape verdant was e’er greener
And no ride more mystic nor arcane
No wide vista seen was more regenerating
Than this spring evening's mounted under rein
No bright poet’s songs could so surround
Like those of wild birds beyond our lanes
No feigned words were e’er so rejuvenating
Than those belonging hopeful to spring’s rains
No purer crystal streams e’er ran over ground
Than our moonlight dreams that now must wane
No tears e’er fell more peaceful there evaporating
Than those that welled after spring’s warm rain
No greater power’s ever sprung from Earth
Than the demonic struggle our Love's slain
No long fall more merciful than our re-birth
As spring’s sunset day-breaks after the rain
