There are dark crickets lightly chirping
On this most pleasant quiet summer eve
Save for meadowlarks now singing out
Within this Peace my reason take its leave
O'er the distance two crows caw echoing
Through this light silence gathering around
One white-throat sparrow song then growing
From the black spruce bog where I was found
From lush pastures before us flowing green
Coos on one lone brown mourning dove
I, like Nature, seems this peaceful night serene
Held between our Earth below and Sun above
Hear two phoebe flycatchers demanding
Beyond scores of blue squadron dragonflies
Now one common yellowthroat gets witchedly
Beneath these new clear calm halcyon skies
From out black woods prowls our brother bear
While under heaven lies a weak spotted fawn
Safe from all dangers She rests peaceful there
Among tall grass blades still from dusk to dawn
