This Green Summer
(Half-Moon Eyes)

You saw me through that thick cloud cover
You surely fought tears in the colder rains
I, your ever falling gentle mystic lover
Writing of olde lost lonely country lanes
You ride there still on your dark horse
You hear us rolling thunder under weather
I reigned high your rain-day man of course
We like the wet equine scent of worn leather
You now shiver in the gathering chill
Your quietude reflecting weaker Sun-light
I rise yet to your waning lunar sliver thrill
We trot silent on apart this half moon night
You stream to me through stormcloud winds
You come whispering gently on the zephyr breeze
I distinguish not mens' earth-harms from sins
We are as one like the horses 'tween our knees
You surely know me better this cold summer
You must feel me lying gray and low in cloud
I, like all bright bards, must grow old and dummer
We care not riding o'er green hill tops proud!
