Tonight as cool ground mists are rising
A new moon chases a tired old sun down
Gray storm clouds form on the horizon
While wet unbailed hay is turning brown
Tonight the sky is rumbling overhead
Above our frightened horses there fly jets
A military presense honouring their dead
Forwarning Life collects all karmic debts
Tonight a kinder gentler breeze is blowing
Tussling leaves of trembling aspen trees
Above gathering gloom the new moon glowing
Off the backs of chirping crickets at our knees
Tonight black tree silhouettes are looming
In foreboding of new dangers all around
Even birds this eve a silence are assuming
Off-loading spirits dark that now surround
Tonight we ride on through peace uncertain
For we know not what the morning brings
The new moon sets, then falls a darker curtain
Leaving only Hope for Life's brighter offerings
