Faerie Rings Abound!

You'll know there's faeries here among us
If you venture now into wet woods northeast
From paths they dance grow fruits of fungus
Upon which you can fly high or die or feast
White puff-balls and dark trumpets-of-death
Now made both abundant by the daily rains
You can sense Her refreshed in cool faerie breath
As they dance within Her coursing ley line veins
In dark woods spring this lammas faerie rings
But if you go searching for them with a basket
You must simply know some wise olde-ways things
For mushroom mistakes will lay you in a casket
'Midst bright witches' butter and dank earth-stars
Fay casts both deadly aminita and delicious morels
Fairies work at night within dense woods of ours
Leaving rings of poisons and sweet chanterelles
You'll know there's faeries here among us
When you too dance widdershins in their circles
Around rising mushroom rings of fruiting fungus
Just getting high on Life & death's true miracles
Author's Notes: All the refreshing rains and cool summer temperatures we have experienced here in the northeast make this one of the most amazing years for all manner of mushrooms! If you venture into the shadows of thick cedar and pine woods this week you might be astounded at the variety of colours and shape and circles you might find there...
