I greet this cold sunrise of late September
From the broad back of a black horse
Riding past warm spring days we remember
Trotting cool away from your lunar source
Through dense pines the Sun is rising
Above, your moon is but now a waning sliver
I find my fresh ambivalence surprising
This old harvest moon makes me not shiver
Once up the Sun throws down bright spears
That slice through mist without a sound
Once in stirrup all my dark fear disappears
Today Light chases the lunar night to ground
I ride out alone, always, this break of dawn
'Neath dew drops shining tears on tired trees
When appears again before us one lone fawn
She moves as gently and silent as the breeze
We just trot on aloof, I’ll not give chase
To this your sent omen of our story untold
I won’t glance up to your winking waning face
No, not in these Light reins on roads of gold
