If we’re nine-lived we’ve used up seven
Mine end young too often quick, well hung
Condemned to death, barred from heaven
By god's men we’ve been evil cast, hell-flung
In public we’ve been bled, lashed & flogged
Before I was then false-tried, beheaded
I’ve lost count of all black lies they've logged
Our souls e'er intact awaiting our fates dreaded
During the burnings we have fed their flames
Yet we rise Whole again from ashen pyres!
Learning shackled in chained iron hames
From out darkness Love begets brighter fires
Each time we’ve thwarted men come our death’s dawn
To teach again with their reason’s two-edged knife
Thus when then quartered ‘til my last breath’s drawn
I reach through death’s dark seasons back to Love & Life!
Sometimes we’ve been held down, dungeoned
And far too often past, I knelt yet badly beaten
Healing from men’s crimes I've rhymed, bludgeoned
But I can't say I’ve yet been cooked & eaten…
