Brush Wolves at Your Door

In town, crows now take to bags of garbage
And skunks are digging up your perfect lawns
There’s raccoons in three-car garages
In urban valley’s does now heavy with fawns
Rare woodpeckers are now making holes
In rich home wood mansion siding
While landscaping trees succumb to voles
Above creek-bound otters at play just sliding
City parks are now fouled up with goose scats
Where unseen coyotes are killing little dogs
Owls and fishers taking their share of house cats
While turtles bask peacefully on old tire-logs
Doves at morning feeders feed now goshawks
And then by evening another house pet falls
By night for breeding rights a cougar stalks
While traps unused adorn your rec-room walls
There’s a black bear powling by your fence
And there’s a fox den beneath the porch floor
You once banished hunter’s here so hence
There’s now howling brush wolves at your door
