Now woodcock, snipe, and gallinules
Claim evening skies with mating sounds
Just as commuting men in suits & April fools
Retreat back to suburban breeding grounds
Wild tom turkeys gobble in the distance
For laying hens still willing to be found
A new house owner takes his proud new stance
All competing in suburban breeding grounds
A male ruffed grouse drums in yonder wood
For spring above forest litter winter-browned
Male hearts thrum for Love - its understood
Females complete their suburban breeding ground
Canada geese have long since paired up
Laying low now on their small marsh nest-mounds
While on T.V. another hockey fight flares up
Such is excitement in suburban breeding grounds...
Elsewhere a northern godwit finds no mate
Nearby one more moorhen’s nest gets drowned
As men forget to mind our Earth’s wild natural state
They cheat Her for more suburban breeding grounds
