When you gaze into a horse’s eyes
In such dark depth there learn to Be
Coursing open, free beneath vast skies
Cast adrift in flight towards all eternity
Then you touch black twitching withers
Feeling the equine essence of our mystery
Calm you groom fear out with gentle shivers
Presume to steal back our noble history!
When she’s relaxed enough you tack her up
Amazed that the mare accepts a saddle
Let down all anxiety with each stirrup
Assume the confidence of entering battle!
When you mount your valiant steed
Merging with fast traffic and the Night
Ride not so much from want but need
Astride dark Love and powers bright!
When you gaze unto your horses’ eyes
Just in-the-moment under moonlight
There soon torment makes us partnered wise
Trusting hooved thunder takes us unto Flight!
