One Lone Special Stone

I found mine in a rock-strewn field
A long-past person’s palm-work worn stone
In my own hand, a perfect fit and yield
Among six billion here, this one spoke to me alone!
If not glacial granite broken from the Shield
Here, most rocks are of jagged shale-lime
I then wonder what secrets this smooth one wields
This beach stone found me out of place ‘cross time
Its primitive purpose yet remains concealed
But held in hand it forever feeds my dreams
Once it might have ground hard seeds enmealed
At times some ancient hunting tool it seems
This stone called down my name the day I kneeled
Picking endless rocks from out horse pastures
With it palmed I felt held somehow, re-healed
Fortified against course pain of these last years
I found mine in a rock-strewn field
Now it sits one lone special stone upon my shelf
Within my calloused hand a perfect fit and yield
Still it keeps its history, a mystery, to its self
