The Source and the Course

Age Group: Adult
Bloodline of offerings,
traced by the source,
branching in wonder,
as gods mark the course.
Simple in essence,
what virtue defines,
as the purified sacrifice,
glorified lines.
Yet ne'er is our virtue,
sufficient to cause,
the inviolate rhythm,
of heavenly laws.
In offerings made by,
a man to his gods,
to gain favour in life,
an' to tamper the odds.
'Tis a price carved in marble,
what ancients reclaim,
to lift aught for the beauty,
an' nought for to blame.
Yet simple it is, as I've
said at the first,
for a measure, or leisure,
accounted for thirst.
That the gods need us not,
as philosophers claim,
but reward us in kind,
for our acts in their name.
So an offering simple,
as virtue may be,
or a hanging of verse,
'pon the olde elder tree.
There is nought to define,
on such wondrous hues,
save what prime personalities,
aught to refuse.
Or reward in due virtue,
what man could bestow,
for the simplest acts,
in devotion to know.
In the aenema's rhythm,
in synch with the source,
one may findeth the ways,
of his destiny's course.
