Prelude to a Storm

This gentle snow now falling
Is just a prelude to a storm
And the distant raven calling
Warns return of winter's norm
This damp laden eastern breeze
Hints of an ice storm on its way
Before distant spruce and pine trees
Wind-burdened begin to sway
These woods have grown silent
Birds and beasts have taken shelter
From this new moon and gray wolves violent
And winds whipped helter skelter
Night stars have sought out cover
Behind the wrything clouds they hide
As the sun bows for his lover
Waxxed for flight both lunar ride
This evening's snow, thick falling
Is just a prelude to a storm
And these distant crows not calling
Warn of winter's return to norm...
