These Three Solstice Nights

These Three Solstice Nights
White snow drifts are growing higher
Beneath this low Solstice sunset stalled
Most warmth is gone now from the pyre
On this first short day ghost Raven called
We lit a raging fire on the hill
'Pon which the old year's dross we burned
On this first of three eve's Sol lies still
Before his yule tide Light's returned
Last night as Sun set low southwest
'Midst wolf howls and Wind's cold frost scream
Sage smoke ringed about our vision quest
In the turning owls call back once-lost dreams
Today our Sun King's god returns
For all beginnings start with ends
The Light returns, the shroud is torn
Now celebrate what warmth She sends
When three long nights revive old Sol
Come gather 'round the christmas tree
Then darkness breaks to make us Whole
Be all the change you wish to see!
