The Shiver of Anticipation

It was a long time ago
How different I was then
That I met my shine that would alight my eyes
And after that… time sped, time went
Time kept passing by… and the time had come
But when it came, it all fell to my feet –
None of it was to become?
It was so long, that time… and all for nothing
Did it amount… all that reaching out
Had gotten me nowhere near where I wanted to be
See, and now… now that all that has passed
Anger, pain and love
Now that all this history is behind us
Now I shake… each word brings me trembles…
But no more are they trembles of joy
They hold anticipation… of another knife to come
Each little detail… makes my heart squeeze together
It makes me think longingly, wantingly –
But also drenched in fear… that fear holds me back
And the trust is exactly what I lack
But after the cuts have almost healed
At least to bitter scars
I cannot move, I just wait
For a sign… that perhaps… it’s not too late
Perhaps I need not say another ‘nevermore’.
