The naïve toy
by Widdershins
Age Group: Adult
I’d entered reality that night
knocked out of sweet dreams
I’d walked with tears choking me down
till all I could do was scream
and around me the darkness comforted me
with loneliness and a sense of home
the bitter truth that I really am…
alone…
I’d walked back on Earth
after being gone from it so far
the brokenness of the fall marking me
with searing, now dull-white scars
like some hero, only I’m no hero
all I am is a shell… ready to be filled…
but somewhere the emptiness is still there
because a part of me had been killed.
The night was about me
and making dreams reality
only it wasn’t the one I wanted
deep inside, I just wanted to run and hide
to lock myself away and just die
that part never wanted to heal
because to me that pain was all that was real
in the world outside I’d never gotten along
with people, because I felt that I needed to be strong
and to be so I hid myself, abiding rules and lines
that only I could clearly define
chaotic good and tense with wait…
I’d died before the knives sunk in…
A part of me wanted to be found.
And found I was… alone and waiting
nervous, quiet, broken
passions that were asleep were reawakened
but aimlessly dodged my signposts
creating folly, yet a new kind of naïve joy
so I’d played the game, no longer the naïve toy
so free I’d become, realizing I’d been trapped
so free to go on, but I couldn’t do that
I was far too attached, and then…
To hell went Hell-bent, glad I was
and now I’m in my true reality… where
my dreams are independent and for… me.

Author's Notes: Ye… I have a feeling it’ll take -a lot- of poetry to bring change.
Written based on another "memory flash" of walking, crying, and listening to Welcome Home (Sanitarium) from Metallica.
