Embarrassed, confused, angry

Embarrassed, confused, angry
those three emotions writhe in me
every time you come
and make me feel foolish
for doing nothing wrong in particular
just being wonderfully insane,
it was my choice, that I made!
Intruding suddenly and thoroughly
into my personal space, and judging
despite the fact that it’s not yours to judge
this is my domain…
you don’t have to tolerate it
but here, in my world, don’t try and change it
because I like it that way.
Maybe I am not right, but
here it’s what I think that counts
this is my world
why do I have to reply so stiffly?
I wonder why…
Why do you even bother to knock
if you’ll be coming in suddenly anyway?
Caught red handed, I feel
though I’ve done nothing wrong
your reproach makes me embarrassed
that I’ve been careless, not done
what I try to do… just to be acceptable
to all of you… since
you are my family.
And finally… stiffly, angrily
you got what you wanted, but you linger
why question my obscure decisions
that have nothing to do with you?
My cheeks burn from the reproach
in anger and embarrassment alike,
and I feel foolish and stupid
for doing what I like…
