There still is an emptiness to fill

The reply was fierce and strong
but warm and loving
like true passion’s fire had burst out
because of just being as… you are
once it was, not I who wrote
and now it is I who respond in kind
for once, it’s well received and alike to mine
but for a moment I stop and reflect
how deteriorated things became before
I met my new…
I would have jumped and caught you now
had you been right here—
no matter, soon I shall do so anyway…
I just remember
when it had not been like this
and yet… it had been so similar…
have you taken that place? I hadn’t noticed
it happened so fast
but I realize now that apart from memory and memorial
the emptiness is being filled…
but the truth of the matter
is that there still is
an emptiness to fill.
No one can replace certain people
who have their role alone, I cannot switch
like I would your current occupancy, but I would not wish to
that is a more permanently sore place.
But yours… cut deeper than anything else
and it bleeds blackness out into the space of my mind
and the cold cruelness still seeps out and bites me
but you are slowly filling it rimming with warmth…
