Facing darkness
by Widdershins
Age Group: Adult
As I face the terrifying darkness
that at once I love and despise
I fear and admire… I realize
the eerie lights playing on my hand
is no more than the signal of prophecy
and the past’s same kind in its falsity mingling,
ominously making my eyes sting and swim from
searing, blinding light
pressing through the obscure comfort
like hot and raw steel pressing
closer – too close – to your skin—
the sweat of fresh blistering pain sinks in,
some memory or another
coming, sweeping in…!
The last little notes of chain mail being put on
a forlorn last glance at the freedom of promises
the weightlessness of the future obscured
before their reality and manifestation must be endured
the creations unwittingly and wantonly sketched
but ever to seep in pools of deep regret…
the answers that never quite fit the need
because once we arrive there,
frailty shows its true colors of greed
willing its destroyed victim to seek after more…
forever looking ahead, waiting for suffering to end by itself
before we have to end it by ourselves…
As I face the terrifying darkness
that at once I love and despise
I fear and admire… I realize
the eerie lights playing on my hand
is no more than the signal of the poignancy
impressed upon me deeply and truly
of mistaken truths blinding a hungry soul, false pretences
and identity theft of presumptuous satisfaction
that would forever lead scars trickling cold blood
onto the surface of my heart.
