Death’s companion…

Age Group: Adult
Death’s wings innocently tipped
into a dive towards the plunging depth
coming like a wraith, ready for me
ready to assault my mind with Vision
setting me on an adventurer’s journey
with all armor and small provision
equipped with stealth and taunts to spare
a wanderer ready to see what’s out there…
Death took away from me all my past
and darkened its portal so I may not look
it wrote all the spells I need in a little book
and nudged me on… Death’s blue lips
whispered a mournful song… a tune to haunt
my waking hours of endless trekking
the sleepless nights where I joyously celebrate
the Moon’s and Sky’s luxurious wedding
the silver that spills splendidly over the stars
the guests at a banquet worthy of legacy
and without further thoughts of sleep I wander on
seeking the glory of being alone and forever
standing outside of each city wall
never to enter at all, to find a home
the glory of being one with only an endless road…
The sound of drums follow me
and Death’s at my heels, always beside me
and helps me or slights me with reprimand
icily taking my hand before I may move
and leading me away before I shake Him off
and continue my journey, leaving behind
many stealthy shadows of the forest…
Death makes sure that my tracks are not followed
He sets up traps for the memories that wish me
to join with them and wallow
He coldly cuts down weaknesses by the dozen
and never does his alertness slacken…
that’s what it is to be
Death’s companion…
