As my traitor betrayed…

…and the day I’d learned that a part of me
had betrayed the rest of me, I knew it must go
I’d thought about the only real fear I know
that I will be afraid, when the time comes
no matter how many times I’ve felt the reward
of kindness as the aching pain
running from my throat and spreading…
as my traitor betrayed.
